When a German sentence like \u201cGenie\u00dfe Dein Leben in vollen Z\u00fcgen\u201d is translated as \u201cEnjoy your life in full trains,\u201d it may provide amusement. However, it\u2019s also a sign that a company is not exactly proficient in English and prefers to rely on cheap machine translation tools instead of native speakers, thus saving money in the wrong place.<\/p>\n\n

But there is some good news: According to a study by the\u00a0Statista Research Department,<\/a>\u00a0around 70 percent of all adults in Germany have at least a reasonably good knowledge of one or even several foreign languages. The bad news, however: When things get tough and people need a translation quickly, many rely on the online tools mentioned above and fall into the \u201ctranslation trap.\u201d For companies, restaurants, hotels or organizations, in particular, this can backfire and even cause immense costs as well as image damage.<\/p>\n\n
