Before your translation reaches you in its final form, the source text is run through a multistage process here at ACT. During this process, the document is translated with the aid of a CAT tool. CAT stands for “computer-aided translation” and refers to software-supported translation by a human. The translation memory (TM) system is just one component of the CAT tool, although the two are often used synonymously.
Our translators work on every translation within the CAT tool. Over the course of the translation process, the integrated TM system saves the text segments – i.e., small units of meaning – composed by the translator in a database created specially and uniquely for you.
Translation databases are created individually for every client and for each language pair, and provide the translation memory that will serve as a foundation for your future texts.
Only the TM systems created specifically for you will be used for your translations. For every new translation, the existing data is compared to the new text and all possible matches are identified.
Our TM system then shows the translator similar formulations that have been stored previously and approved for further use. If something is repeated within a text or across multiple texts, the corresponding segment does not need to be re-translated manually.
The pre-translated segments are always the product of human translators who have worked for this client before, and they make each subsequent translation faster and more cost-effective while ensuring consistency.
